educationThe 8-4-4 system of education was geared to imparting appropriate skills to enhance self-employment. However due to the high costs, poverty and lack of facilities, there has been high school drop-out rates. Most of the youths living in slums drop out of school or graduate without acquiring the skills necessary for self- employment. Many girls drop out of school due to pregnancy.

KESYDO is applying the following strategies to enhance education and training for the youths living in slums:
  1. KESYDO is advocating for affordable and accessible quality primary, secondary and university education;
  2. Identifying, support and partner efforts of communities, groups, non-profit organizations, places of worship, especially in technical education.
  3. Helping in increasing bursary provision for needy students;
  4. Advocate for establishment ofadequate special schools and rehabilitation centers to cater for the youths in special needs.
  5. Promote and encourage skills development of the youth through vocational training and imparting life skills;;
  6. Strengthen civic education in schools;.
  7. Protecting jua kali innovation by providing assistance in patent acquisition.
