KESYDO Coodinates GYSD 2010 Event in 8 Countries |

In January 2010, KESYDO had the privilege to be appointed by Youth Service America (YSA) as the Regional Lead Agency to coordinate 2010 Global Youth Service Day projects in the East and Southern African region. Aggressive publicity campaign which included, the use of electronic, and print media was employed to mobilize groups and individuals across the region to take part in the 2010 GSYD celebrations. More than 400 youth grops were contacted in 12 countries .The following is a breakdown of the geographical distribution of the groups contacted which carried at least a service project in their respective countries and communities.

Bondo Rangers Lifts the 2010 GYSD Cup |

Bondo rangers of Western Kenya were crowned the Men Soccer champions of the 2010 GYSD cup after beating Bondo United one goal to nil. The ladies finals saw Bondo United Thrash Maranda 3 goals to nought to Lift the ladies trophy. The GYSD 2010 Soccer tournament was organized by Action against Poverty for Socio-Economic Justice (AAPSEJIK) with support from Equity Bank LTD, PLAN-Kenya, World Voices Positive and KESYDO to commemorate the 22nd global youth service day in Nyanza province Kenya. AAPSEJIK serves the poor women, youths, people with disabilities and children by facilitating access to health care, education, relief, economic opportunities and legal needs through the establishment of relevant programs, advocacy and local resource mobilization. They were the appointed local lead agencies for GYSD in Nyanza province Kenya.
The prestigious Global Youth Service Day trophy and a Football were handed over to the winners by the Bondo constituency COE coordinator who was presided over the ceremony.The other teams were also awarded as below:
- Runners Up Men – 2 footballs
- All semi-finalists and finalists of ladies football – 1 ball each
The Youth were encouraged to take up an active role in National issues. The committee of experts on constitutional review was represented by the Bondo constituency coordinator who urged the youth to equip themselves to vote in the forthcomming New constitution referendum. As well the youth were advised to spend wisely and save regularly so as to safeguard their future. |

93 attend VCT as Hundreds are encouraged to register as voters |

To mark the 22nd Global youth Service Day, KESYDO, in collaboration with Liverpool VCT organized Voluntary testing and counseling (VCT) sessions for Residents of Mathare, Eastleigh and environs. The sessions were conducted at the Saint Theresa Girls School grounds on 23rd and 24th of April to run concurrent with the GYSD celebrations. 47 males and 46 Females were tested for HIV and TB and underwent counselling sessions on various aspects of social life. Among those who attended the VCT sessions included 1 couple attended of which 2 persons under the age of 15. Liverpool VCT services provided 5 counselors, tents, and testing kits for the exercise
The Exercise was lauded as a huge success given that this number supersedes the normal turnout in VCT stations operating area and its environs. Mr. David Njihia of Liverpool VCT and Mr. Jacob Nyarwati of KESYDO coordinated the exercise.
A voter registration exercise conducted by the Kenya Interim Independent Electoral Commission (IIEC) also benefited from the events as hundreds of youth were encouraged to register as voters.

US Deputy Ambassador Graces 2010 GYSD Gala |

US Deputy Ambassador to Kenya Mr Lee Anthony Brudvig, was among key personalities that graced the 22nd Global Youth Service day gala at the Saint Theresa's Girl School in Nairobi. The event, held on 23rd April 2010 capped a total of participation of 800 people on the opening day (23rd April) and 500 on the second day (24th April). Another 500 youth took part in a build up event organized by Ngei One Youth Group in Mathare slums. The buildup event focused on HIV awareness. In addition to Mr. Brudvig, the event was graced by officials from USAID Kenya led by their Youth Development Program Specialist, Ms Pamela Wesonga, Mr. Cyprian Nyamwamu (NCEC Secretary general), officials from Mars group,Kenya and Youth leaders from across the city.
